Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Clean APIs at cleanapis.com, including the website, dashboard, and API. By creating an account or sending an API request, you agree to them. If you are agreeing on behalf of a company, you confirm you are authorised to bind it.

1. What the service is

Clean APIs is an API gateway. We provide a single OpenAI-compatible endpoint that routes your requests to third-party AI model providers, meters your usage, and bills you for it. We do not build or host the underlying models. Model names on our platform may differ from the upstream provider's naming.

Because we are an intermediary, a model's availability, behaviour, quality, and speed ultimately depend on its upstream provider. Models may be added, renamed, repriced, deprecated, or withdrawn — sometimes at the provider's initiative and with little notice. We will give reasonable notice of removals where we can.

2. Your account

• You must give accurate registration information and keep it current.
• You must be at least 16, or the age of digital consent in your country, whichever is higher.
• One person or organisation per account. Creating multiple accounts to obtain extra free allowances is a breach of these terms.
• You are responsible for everything that happens under your account.
• Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorised access.

3. API keys

Your API keys authenticate as you and can spend your balance. Treat them like passwords.

• Keep keys server-side. Do not embed them in browser JavaScript, mobile apps, public repositories, or shared notebooks.
• Scope each key to only what it needs, and rotate keys you suspect are exposed.
• Usage incurred by a leaked key is your responsibility. We will help you investigate and can revoke keys immediately, but we cannot reverse charges already spent upstream on your behalf.

4. Plans, tokens, and balance

Billing works on two layers, and it matters which one is being spent:

• Plan allowance — a monthly token quota included with your plan. It resets each billing period and unused tokens do not carry over.
• Account balance — prepaid credit, charged at each model's published per-token rate once your plan allowance is exhausted. Balance does not expire while your account is open.

Tokens count both what you send and what the model returns. Every plan can reach every publicly available model; plans differ in monthly volume and per-minute rate limits, not in feature access.

When your allowance and balance are both exhausted, requests are refused with HTTP 402 before reaching a model, so you are never billed for something you did not authorise and never cut off mid-response.

Where an upstream provider does not report exact token counts, we estimate them using a documented method. We publish per-model rates and they include our margin. Rates can change; we will announce increases in advance, and a change never applies retroactively to usage already billed.

5. Payment

• Paid plans are charged in advance for the period you select. Balance top-ups are charged when you make them.
• We accept Paddle (Credit/Debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, iDEAL), Binance Pay, and cryptocurrency. Availability varies by region.
• Binance Pay and Cryptocurrency payments are verified automatically via gateway API integrations or transaction hashes. Submit the correct transaction ID or hash for instant verification.
• Unpaid orders expire automatically after the window shown at checkout, and an expired order cannot be revived — start a new one.
• Submitting a payment reference you did not make, or reusing one, is fraud and will result in termination.
• Taxes, bank charges, and currency conversion fees are yours to pay.

6. Refunds

• Tokens already consumed are not refundable, because we have already paid the upstream provider for them.
• Unused prepaid balance can be refunded within 14 days of the top-up, less any transaction fees, provided the account is in good standing.
• If you were charged because of a billing error on our side, we refund it in full.
• Plan fees are refundable pro rata only if we materially fail to deliver the service and cannot remedy it.
• Accounts terminated for breach of these terms forfeit any remaining balance.

7. Acceptable use

Your use must comply with our Acceptable Use Policy, which forms part of these terms. In addition, do not:

• Resell or redistribute API access without a written agreement with us.
• Attempt to extract, reproduce, or reverse-engineer model weights.
• Work around rate limits, token accounting, or billing, including by registering multiple accounts.
• Probe, scan, or stress-test our infrastructure without written permission.
• Use the service to build a directly competing gateway.

8. Your content

You keep all rights to the prompts you send and, as between you and us, to the output you receive. We claim no ownership over either.

You grant us only the narrow licence needed to transmit your requests to the provider serving your chosen model and return the result. We do not use your prompts or outputs to train models.

AI output can be wrong, biased, or fabricated. It is your responsibility to review it before relying on it, and we make no warranty about its accuracy or fitness for any purpose. You are responsible for ensuring your use of the output is lawful, including any third-party rights it may touch.

9. Availability

We aim for high availability but do not offer a contractual uptime guarantee or service credits on standard plans. Maintenance, upstream provider outages, and network failures can interrupt service. Current status is published on our status page. If you need a formal SLA, contact us about an enterprise arrangement.

10. Suspension and termination

You may close your account at any time from your settings.

We may suspend or terminate an account, with notice where practicable, if:

• you breach these terms or the Acceptable Use Policy;
• we detect fraudulent payment or chargeback abuse;
• your usage threatens the stability or security of the platform; or
• we are legally required to.

Serious cases — fraud, or activity that endangers others — may be suspended immediately without prior notice. On termination your API keys stop working at once. Sections 6, 8, 11, and 12 survive termination.

11. Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

To the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, revenue, data, or goodwill — including losses arising from AI output you relied on, from service interruption, or from an upstream provider's acts or omissions.

Our total liability for any claim is capped at the amount you paid us in the three months before the event giving rise to it. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

You agree to indemnify us against third-party claims arising from your use of the service, your content, or your breach of these terms.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The effective date at the top will change, and for material changes we will notify account holders by email or an in-app notice before they take effect. Continued use after that constitutes acceptance. If you do not accept the new terms, close your account and request a refund of unused balance under section 6.

13. General

• These terms, together with the Acceptable Use Policy and Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between us.
• If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in force.
• Not enforcing a provision immediately does not waive it.
• You may not assign these terms without our consent; we may assign them in a merger or acquisition.
• We will try in good faith to resolve any dispute informally first — email [email protected].
